Description
We are currently interested in hosting self-funded PhD students and research fellows with interests in optical biosensors for personalised medicine. Such biosensors should be self-referenced i.e. able to measure analytes in biological samples that are complex mixtures and amid changes in ambient conditions (e.g. temperature). Effective personalised medicine also relies on accurate diagnosis, which in turn demands that multiple analytes are measured simultaneously. We are developing self-referenced optical leaky waveguides, interferometers and gratings for the measurement of multiple analytes. The biosensors that we are developing are platform technologies i.e. they can be adapted to facilitate personalised medicine for any disease condition. Such sensors will also find applications in numerous other fields including pandemics (e.g. ongoing covid-19), environmental monitoring.
Researchers joining the group will gain skills in optical sensors, hydrogels, bioconjugation methods, microfabrication, microfluidics and instrumentation. You can learn more about the research in the group by visiting https://rguptagrouplab.com/. Interested candidates can get in touch with Dr Ruchi Gupta (r.gupta.3(at)bham.ac.uk) for an informal discussion.
