Project For.Ma. aims to study two ancient legal manuscripts stored in the Biblioteca Universitaria of Padua. One of them (n. 941) contains the first 24 books of the Justinian’s Digest in the vulgate tradition: just three other manuscripts in the world are so old and important (Paris, Vatican City, Leipzig). The other one (n. 688) contains the first 9 books of the Justinian’s Code. It is one of the oldest manuscripts that not reproduce a medieval shortened version of the Codex. For.Ma. aims to (re)digitize in high quality the manuscripts and make them available online; publish two facsimile editions; realize a complete study of their features, their history, their role in the transmission, diffusion and interpretation of the Corpus in the Middle Age, their relevance for the studies of Roman law at the University of Padua, their importance for the modern editions of the Digest and Code. Project For.Ma. expects to fill a research gap and to reach new and original results.
