Job description:

DESY

For high-end synchrotron radiation applications, the 3rd generation storage ring PETRA III is one of the most brilliant X-ray sources. The "Coherence Applications" beamline P10 is specialized in the development and application of coherent X-ray scattering techniques in the medium hard X-ray regime. Scientifically, the experiments aim to gain a deeper understanding of structural and dynamical properties of matter at nanometer length scales. The candidate should pursue his own research portfolio applying coherent X-ray scattering methods and enable the P10 beamline user community to continue to perform successfully state-of-the-art experiments.

About your role:

  • Further develop innovative instrumentation and sample environments for coherent X-ray scattering experiments in collaboration with external groups, including the development of a possible successor beamline at PETRA IV
  • Support the installation and commissioning of instrumentation at the beamline
  • Perform advanced coherent X-ray scattering experiments making use of the specific beamline capabilities
  • Develop own independent research and participate in collaborative projects with external groups
  • Support external user groups at the beamline
  • Lead a small team of scientist, engineers and technicians

About you:

  • PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or related disciplines
  • Experience with (coherent) X-ray techniques using synchrotron radiation
  • Practical knowledge of programming and scripting languages and modern ray-tracing codes
  • Experimental skills and interest in instrumentation development
  • Excellent knowledge of English, basic knowledge of German
  • Teamwork abilities, structured working, setting priorities

Look forward to a unique working environment on our international research campus. Respectful cooperation and the well-being of our DESY employees are particularly important to us.
