Description

Are you a postdoctoral researcher thinking about your next career move? The Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA) Individual Fellowships are a great option if you are an experienced researcher looking to give your career a boost by working abroad.

Group and project information

The project pursues the synthesis and characterization of new nanostructured bimodal therapeutic agents through the design of appropriate inorganic hybrid nanoparticles, their functionalization, the study of their magnetic and optical properties and the assessment of their dual performance as antitumoral nanodevices. This goal will be achieved by the presence of both a magnetic and a semiconductor domain sharing an interface within the nanoparticle. Each of the domains will accomplish its therapeutic role under the effect of a specific external stimulus such as light or magnetic field. Colloidal synthetic strategies will be used for the synthesis of these size and shape controlled hybrid nanoparticles, and a wide variety of structural, morphological, chemical and physical characterization techniques will be employed to assess the suitability of the samples obtained. The candidate would join the Laboratory of Nanostructured and Nanocomposite Materials (LM2N) at University of Barcelona, which is fully equipped with all required lab ware and instrumentation for colloidal chemistry and which has access to cutting-edge characterization techniques for materials science and chemistry. The candidate's everyday tasks will be mainly related to synthesis, functionalization and characterization of the desired samples, thus at the frontiers between materials science and molecular chemistry. Additionally, LM2N counts on a wide network of national and international collaborators that greatly suggests the achievement of the project goals, including those related to the therapeutic performance of selected samples at least in in vitro experiments, in which the candidate would be very much involved.

The applicant would also become a member of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the University of Barcelona (IN2UB), an institution especially appreciated by its high multidisciplinary and international character, as well as by the several research diffusion and exchange activities organized. The possibility to involve the candidate in tutoring of undergraduate and Master students will also be strongly considered. Moreover, the candidate will be fully encouraged to participate in the preparation of national and international research proposals.

Skills/qualifications

Experience in synthesis and/or functionalization of nanostructured materials would be highly desired, as well as experience with standard materials science characterization techniques
