A third of the time will be dedicated to contributions to a new cross-collaboration combination activity: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/Honexcomb.

The postdoctoral researcher will work on the heavy-ion programme of the CMS collaboration. The exact subjects of analysis will be debated, but should resonate with the group interests for electroweak probes (incl. Drell-Yan), heavy flavours (incl. quarkonia) and tagged jets.

The CMS group of the Laboratoire Leprince-Ringuet (LLR) at the École polytechnique (Palaiseau, France), is inviting applications for a 2+1-year postdoctoral position scheduled to start as early as possible.

LLR is based in the Paris area, at the École polytechnique. It has a long tradition in heavy-ion physics, started with dilepton studies in the NA38/NA50 experiments at CERN SPS and in the PHENIX experiment at RHIC. Its CMS group is based on 12 permanent physicists, with a large variety of interests and activities. Matthew Nguyen and Raphaël Granier de Cassagnac foster the heavy-ion experimental component, in close interaction with a associated theorist to the CMS collaboration, François Arleo. The group produced landmarked publications on novel hard probes provided by LHC data (jets, open beauty, bottomonia, electroweak bosons…).

Eligibility criteria

Applicants should hold a recent PhD degree in experiment high-energy physics, significant expertise in data analysis, good knowledge of instrumentation matter, as well as efficient programming skills. The ability to take on responsibilities in an independent manner will be particularly appreciated.
