OFFER DESCRIPTION

ISGlobal (www.isglobal.org) is a cutting-edge institution with the proven capacity to address major global health challenges through research, translation and education. ISGlobal has emerged as a world class centre in research, translation and education in global public health working towards a world in which all people can enjoy good health.

ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases with special attention to environmental health determinants. Among our main ambitions in communicable diseases, we are making progress in the strategies to eliminate malaria, yaws, Chagas diseases, TB, viral hepatitis and HIV, to halt the spread of antibiotic resistance and to develop better and new approaches to reduce maternal and infant mortality in sub-Saharan Africa and integrate communicable disease services there.

Regarding non-communicable diseases we work to better  understand the exposome, the characterization of the more harmful environmental exposure during childhood including chemicals and radiation and those that affect the neurodevelopment, conducting and improving health impact assessments to support built urban environment policies, providing knowledge that could be translated in more effective preventive strategies against cancer and respiratory diseases, and addressing the public health and health systems issues of one of the most understudied non-communicable diseases: fatty liver disease (NAFLD/NASH), in which we lead multiple global studies including the global public health consensus statement.

ISGlobal’s approach is multidisciplinary ranging from the molecular to the population level and including disciplines across health sciences, life sciences, and environmental sciences. Along with an outstanding faculty of leading researchers and practitioners from many fields, ISGlobal is committed to running postgraduate education programmes that meet the global health needs and expectations of the new generations of researchers and professionals.

Focus

Digital health interventions are increasingly seen as an effective complement to traditional forms of care delivery, facilitating access to care and supporting structured lifestyle interventions. The ideal candidate would have an interest in the influence and impact of using digital health interventions in patient-centred prevention and management of care in communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Research would be conducted around the effectiveness of digitally supported structured lifestyle interventions, behaviour change techniques, patient-reported outcome measures, and health coaching in combination with remote/hybrid clinical pathways and the subsequent impact on disease pathways and health outcomes in the field of liver disease and possibly HIV.
