PhD student (f/m/d)
As a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,200 people. The Center's focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.
The Institute of Resource Ecology invites applications as PhD students (f/m/d)
Two positions will be available from 01.11.2020. The employment contract is limited to three years.
The positions are part of a national joint project dealing with the speciation and transfer of radionuclides in the human organism especially taking into account decorporation agents (RADEKOR). The main subject of the PhD works will be the investigation of the transport of trivalent lanthanides (Ln(llI)) and actinides (An(III)) as well as uranium in the gastrointestinal tract in-vitro and in simulated biological fluids with decorporation agents. The main tasks of the works will be:
# Preparation of suitable model fluids and investigation of the complexation behavior of Ln(llI)/An(III) and uranium ions
# Spectroscopic experiments for determination of the metal ion speciation (i.e. laser fluorescence spectroscopy)
# Modeling of aqueous speciation on the basis of thermodynamic data sets
# very good university degree (Master/Diploma) in chemistry, biochemistry, food chemistry or in a related subject
# knowledge of spectroscopic methods
# knowledge of thermodynamics
# skills in interdisciplinary research
# excellent communication skills in English and in a professional context (presentation of research results at scientific meetings, colloquial discussions, writing of manuscripts)
# The willingness of handling radioactive samples is understood
