Lean, Agile, Resilient and Sustainable (LARS) Supply Chains

Outline

The successful candidate will be enrolled on the PhD in Business and Management at Cardiff Business School.

This project will look at how supply chains develop their strategy towards being lean, agile, resilient and sustainable (LARS supply chains). In todays’ volatile market accompanied by different risks such a political and natural one, firms need to become resilient while they need to be efficient and responsive as well pertinent to leanness and agility. In addition, the issue of sustainability in its different aspects of economic, environmental and social cannot be neglectable. There is a gap on this holistic view in supply chains which this project aims to target it. It will involve the literature review on leanness, agility, resilience and sustainability in supply chains. It will be designed with qualitative methods including case studies (at least 6) to investigate the LARS approach in the supply chains.

What is funded

Applications are open until 31st May 2020. This project is not funded, applications from self-funded students are welcome. Outstanding applicants may be considered for one of the available scholarships. The start date is 1st October 2020.

Eligibility

The ideal candidate has a specialist Master Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Management or related subjects from an internationally renowned University. Applicants with a strong first degree will also be considered. The ideal applicant has the motivation and ability to develop industry links and conduct fieldwork; is keen to conduct mixed-method research, with emphasis on qualitative methods (i.e. interviews, observation). Ideally, the candidate has previous academic knowledge and/or work experience in the supply chain management.
