Offer Description

You will be part of :

  • The Beams department, responsible for the beam generation, acceleration, diagnostics, controls and performance optimization for the LHC and its injector accelerators.
  • The Accelerator and Beam Physics Group, which is responsible for studying and understanding the beam dynamics over the complete CERN Accelerator Complex through theoretical, simulation and experimental studies. The group provides input and support for machine operations, devising settings and scenarios to optimize the machine performance. It is also responsible for working out concepts and ideas for future accelerators.

The muon collider is a novel approach to reach very lepton collision energies and to expand the physics reach well beyond that of LHC and HL-LHC. It is an important option as a future flagship project at the high-energy frontier and promises comparatively low cost and power consumption.
Muon colliders are studied by a world-wide collaboration hosted at CERN. The study is also supported by the European Commission. Your work will enable the physics team to determine the physics reach and the collaboration to optimise the collider.

In this position, you will contribute to two main fields of the collider design:
1) The beam dynamics design of the final cooling, which is a core system to achieve the beam quality that is essential to reach the physics potential.
2) Act as the study leader to develop an integrated high-level model of the collider performance.
